How to Use
To use a rubber catheter for an enema, fill an enema bag with warm solution, prime the tubing to remove air, and lubricate the catheter tip. Lie on your left side with knees bent. Gently insert the tube 3–4 inches (or up to 10 inches for high-volume) into the rectum, allow the solution to flow, and retain it for the recommended time. Step-by-Step Instructions: Preparation: Gather a red rubber catheter (commonly size 24 French for adults, smaller for children), enema bag, lubricant, and warm, prescribed solution. Prepare Equipment: Attach the catheter to the enema bag tubing. Lubricate the tip thoroughly. Positioning: Lie on your left side with your knees bent towards your chest. Insertion: Gently insert the lubricated catheter into the rectum (about 3-4 inches). Administration: Open the clamp on the bag to allow the solution to flow slowly. If cramping occurs, stop the flow for a few seconds. Removal: Once the bag is empty, clamp the tubing and gently remove the catheter. Retention: Remain lying down until you feel a strong urge to defecate (usually 15-30 minutes). Safety Tips: Never force the catheter if you feel resistance. Use body-temperature solution to prevent cramping. Ensure the bag is hung 12-15 inches above the hips.
